& WORKSHOPS
 Being a certified teacher, I feel it is natural to use the wisdom of animals and their history in specialized workshops and lessons for a variety of groups and ages. The connection between animals and children is a strong one, and facilitating that connection through hands-on programs with animals is an experience participants seldom forget. Northern Heritage Kennel offers lessons to children's groups, classrooms and other special events, basing all activities and programs on the history of these northern dogs, their journeys on the sled and their team work - all the things that make them so unique. Inside the Classroom: Many of the school based programs are based on David Selby's teachings (EarthKind, a teacher's handbook on Humane Education), as there is a great link to global and character education and humane education. Our programs encompass much more than just simple animal lessons, tyeing our domestic animals / pets into the greater world around us to begin student's understanding of the interconnectedness of the planet that we all live on. School lessons can be anything from team building, history of early Arctic peoples, to curriculum integrated lessons around the Arctic and climate change, and how it relates to the wildlife and others inhabiting the lands. The dogs that are brought into the classroom are certified therapy animals with all the patience and experience children need.  Outside of the Classroom: These intimate programs where we bring a few animals, focus on the dogs, their relationships with people and their history. We also do team building using dog sledding activities that compliment natural and environmental based programming, day camps, birthday parties and other group focused children's programs.
