ABOUT

  We started out in Southern Ontario in a small farmhouse. We loved our two dogs, but were drawn to the northern breeds. Our first husky cross, Loki, made us realize our love for northern breeds ran deep. After becoming involved in Alaskan Malamute rescue, then adopting a northern mix after he was abandoned on our road, we got our first dog sled. With our lack of snow and the urge to do more running with our dogs, we decided to make the move north. After many sacrifices, we bought our dream house on some land.


  As our sled team (and the dog numbers) grew, we started to see the different types of dogs in the dog sledding world, and became very interested in the history of our amazing northern breeds. Researching the husky's history, we came across the Seppala Siberian Sleddog Project and the Seppala Siberian Sleddog, a new and evolving breed based on the hardworking bloodlines of the original sleddogs that were brought over from Siberia in the 1900's. After joining the Working Canine Association of Canada, we have come to play a part in the rescue effort for these bloodlines, living, working and raising Seppala Siberian Sleddogs.


  Living and learning from so many dogs, we have seen the unmistakable health benefits from the natural lifestyle they live. Our natural dog food business, Northern Naturals, is a way of sharing this with other companion animals, as well as offering other holistic services like canine massage (which is great after a long run through the trails!). Being a teacher, I have also seen the remarkable impacts animals make in the classroom and on children (and really, on anyone who opens themselves up to them) and out of that, our educational programs and workshops using the dogs, their sledding and their history has evolved.
